Terms of Service
Plain-language terms for a plain tool. GridCutter is free to use — here's what that means for both of us.
The short version
GridCutter is a free, no-account tool. You own your images — we never touch them. Use the tool lawfully, don't try to break it, and understand it comes without warranty. That's really the whole story.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using GridCutter at gridcutter.com ("the Service"), you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service immediately.
These Terms apply to all visitors and users of the Service. Your continued use of GridCutter following any changes to these Terms constitutes acceptance of those changes.
2. Description of Service
GridCutter is a free, browser-based image-splitting tool designed to help creators prepare photos for Instagram grid layouts. The Service supports grid layouts from 3×1 up to 3×6, with output in either 4:5 (portrait, with optional overlap alignment for Instagram's profile preview) or 3:4 (simple square-crop) aspect ratios.
Client-side processing: All image processing occurs entirely within your web browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. No image data is transmitted to any server. GridCutter has no backend image pipeline, no cloud storage, and no image database.
The Service is provided free of charge and is supported by display advertising served via Google AdSense. No subscription, account registration, or payment is required to use any feature of GridCutter.
3. Your Content & Ownership
You retain full ownership of any images you process using GridCutter. Because all processing is client-side, we never receive, store, or transmit your images — therefore we make no claim whatsoever over your content.
By using the Service you represent and warrant that:
- You own the images you process, or have the necessary rights and permissions to use them.
- Your use of those images does not infringe any third-party intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights.
- You are solely responsible for the content you produce and distribute using output from GridCutter.
4. Acceptable Use
GridCutter is a general-purpose image utility. You agree not to use the Service in any way that:
Violates any law
Including processing or distributing images that are illegal in your jurisdiction, or using the tool to facilitate copyright infringement.
Harms others
Including processing non-consensual intimate imagery, images of minors in an exploitative context, or content intended to harass or defame individuals.
Disrupts the Service
Including attempting to reverse-engineer, scrape at excessive scale, inject malicious code, or circumvent any technical measures of the Service.
Misrepresents the Service
Including redistributing GridCutter under a different brand without permission, or implying endorsement or affiliation where none exists.
5. Intellectual Property
The GridCutter name, logo, website design, interface, and source code are the intellectual property of GridCutter and its creators. Nothing in these Terms grants you a right to use any trademark, trade name, or other proprietary mark of GridCutter.
The underlying JavaScript tool logic is provided for personal, non-commercial use via the Service. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from GridCutter's source code without explicit written permission.
Third-party libraries used by GridCutter are subject to their own respective open-source licenses.
6. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. We specifically disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
- Output images will meet the requirements of any particular platform, including Instagram, which may change its own specifications at any time.
- Any errors in the Service will be corrected within any specific timeframe.
Platform compatibility: GridCutter outputs images intended for Instagram grids. Instagram's display format and compression behaviour are controlled entirely by Meta Platforms, Inc. GridCutter is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected to Instagram or Meta.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, GridCutter and its creators, contributors, and operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data or image files
- Image distortion, colour shift, or quality degradation resulting from browser-based processing
- Social media account issues arising from use of output images
- Loss of revenue, goodwill, or business opportunity
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the Service shall not exceed zero dollars (USD $0), reflecting the fact that the Service is provided entirely free of charge.
8. Modifications to the Service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time, with or without notice. This includes adding or removing grid formats, changing the advertising model, or taking the Service offline temporarily or permanently.
We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date on this page and, where appropriate, posting a notice on the homepage.
9. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which GridCutter is operated, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in that jurisdiction.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
